New Delhi, October 9:
The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has strongly condemned the dismissal of S.S. Mahadevaiah, General Secretary of the All India Gramin Dak Sevak Union (AIGDSU), affiliated with the National Federation of Postal Employees (NFPE). CITU described the action by the Postal Department and the Government of India as an atrocious and vindictive move aimed at silencing legitimate workers’ voices.

According to the CITU statement, Mahadevaiah’s dismissal for leading a strike of Gramin Dak Sevaks against the government’s anti-employee policies and for raising long-pending demands of postal workers is a direct attack on the constitutional rights of employees to organize and protest.

CITU further criticized the government’s privatization agenda under the Post Offices Act 2023, alleging it paves the way for corporate control of postal services. The organization accused the government of adopting an authoritarian approach toward employee unions and protests defending the rights of postal workers.

The statement noted that the government has also illegally derecognized the NFPE and failed to implement court directions, while continuing to victimize union leaders for standing up against privatization.

CITU urged the Department of Posts and the Central Government to immediately rescind the dismissal order of Mahadevaiah and reaffirmed its full support and solidarity with postal employees in their ongoing struggle for justice and democratic rights.
